School Landscape Design – Romford

Landscape design for a school that promotes exercise

Phil Franklin Landscapes asked me to develop the concept from Play Learning Life of a figure of eight race track for Crowlands Primary School in Romford.  The track for bikes and trikes would be used by infant pupils, the brief was to incorporate a number of textured surfaces to create a bumpy interactive ride full of colour and fun to use.  The track pivots around two mounds of artificial lawn and uses resin bound aggregate, brick and pebble surfaces, amongst others.

Following the completion of the race track, Iron Butterfly Design was invited to complete designs for the remaining playgrounds used by Key Stage One and Two pupils.  A Multi-Use-Games-Area is to be installed along with a substantial play tower.  The soft landscaping will introduce semi-mature trees and naturalistic planting as well as a grass mound with tunnel running through.  The hard landscaping features new way marking to make for easier navigation around the school as well as new seating and conversion of existing seating shelters into storage ‘play pods’.
